PVC windows, VK Product

PVC windows

The most popular choice for flats and houses, and for good reason. A well-made PVC window keeps the heat in, cuts street noise and needs almost no maintenance.

The profiles we use

Our PVC windows are made from profiles by the German manufacturer Salamander and the European manufacturer Profilink. These are multi-chamber profiles with steel reinforcement in both frame and sash: the air trapped in the chambers insulates, while the steel keeps the window true even after a full summer day in direct sun. The number of chambers matters, but it isn't the only thing, the quality of the PVC itself, the glazing and the installation count just as much.

Glazing to suit the room

Choose between double and triple insulated glazing. Low-E glass reflects heat back into the room in winter and lets less of it in during summer. For a flat on a busy street we recommend acoustic glass; for ground floors and shops, safety glass.

Shapes and opening types

Single, double or triple-sash, fixed, bottom-hung or tilt-and-turn, all made to the exact size of your opening, including non-standard shapes such as arched windows or sloping attic windows. Replacing old windows normally doesn't involve knocking out any walls.

Colours and finishes

Besides classic white, there's anthracite, grey and wood-effect foils that are hard to tell from the real thing, handy when you want to keep the character of an old stone house without ever painting again.

Roller shutters, mosquito nets and aluminium drip sills can be ordered with the windows; we measure and fit everything in one go.

PVC entrance doors, VK Product

PVC entrance doors

The front door is the first thing a guest sees and the first thing a burglar tries. A good PVC door handles both: it looks right, seals well and is hard to force.

Construction

We build our doors from multi-chamber Salamander and Profilink PVC profiles with steel reinforcement. The infill can be a solid insulated panel, a panel with glass, or a combination with side lights and a transom, a fixed glass panel above the door that brings daylight into the hallway.

Security

Multi-point locking, a security cylinder and quality hinges come as standard. On request we add heavier hardware, safety glass and extra seals. Fitted like this, a PVC door is harder to force than a typical wooden or sheet-metal one.

Made to your taste

White, anthracite, grey or wood-effect; flat or decorative panel; chrome, stainless or black handle. We adapt the size to your existing opening, which matters a lot when renovating older houses.

Where they work best

Houses, flats, building entrances and smaller commercial premises. Their sound insulation makes them a good fit for buildings on busy roads, and since damp and salt don't harm them, they cope well with life by the sea.

ALU windows, VK Product

ALU windows

Aluminium is the material of modern architecture: slim frames, large panes of glass and a strength that doesn't give even in a strong bura wind.

Alumil systems

We build our aluminium joinery on systems from the Greek manufacturer Alumil, one of Europe's leading names. Their range covers windows, doors, sliding walls and façades, with and without thermal break, so an entire building can be done in one system and one colour.

Why the thermal break matters

Aluminium used to have a reputation for being "cold". Modern profiles have a thermal break: a polyamide strip that separates the outer and inner parts of the frame, so heat doesn't escape through the metal and condensation doesn't form on the frame. For homes we always recommend thermally broken systems with good insulated glazing. They cost a little more up front and pay that back through lower heating and air-conditioning bills.

When to choose aluminium

For large openings and panoramic glazing, villas and apartments by the sea, offices and shopfronts. Aluminium is strong yet light, so it carries heavy triple glazing without the frames twisting. It doesn't corrode, isn't bothered by salt, UV or damp, and holds its shape in the heat.

Colours

Profiles can be powder-coated in practically any RAL colour, matt anthracite, white, black, bronze, or finished in wood effect. Mosquito nets can be added on request.

ALU entrance doors, VK Product

ALU entrance doors

For an entrance that should make an impression. Aluminium doors are strong, long-lived and give a design freedom that other materials struggle to match.

Why aluminium

Aluminium is light yet extremely tough, so even very large doors can be made without the leaf sagging or warping over time. It doesn't rust or deteriorate in damp or salty air, which is decisive for houses near the sea.

Design

Flush doors with a concealed leaf, panels with stainless or glass inserts, long vertical pull handles, wood effect or matt anthracite, built on Alumil systems, to the size of your opening and to your taste.

Security and insulation

Thermally broken profiles with an insulated panel keep the warmth inside, while a multi-point lock and security cylinder make the door hard to force.

Terraces and gardens

Aluminium is also excellent for balcony doors and terrace exits: large glass lets in light and the view, and a sliding version saves space in the room.

And the price?

Aluminium doors cost more than PVC, that's a fact. But they last for decades without painting or repairs, so the difference pays off over time, especially on houses exposed to sun and sea spray.

Sliding systems, VK Product

Sliding systems

For when you want the line between living room and terrace to all but disappear. Sliding sashes take up no room when opened and let in as much light as possible.

PVC sliding systems

The more affordable option, with excellent thermal insulation, in white, anthracite or wood effect. Besides terrace and balcony exits, they also work as an elegant partition between two rooms.

Aluminium sliding systems

For wide spans and heavy glass. Thermally broken Alumil sliding systems carry very wide sashes, and the slim profiles mean more glass and less frame, your sea view stays uncluttered.

Lift & slide

Turning the handle lifts the sash slightly so it glides easily, then lowers it onto the seals when you close it. That's why even very large sashes move with one hand, and the closed wall still seals tightly.

Glass and sun

On a glass wall facing south, the choice of glazing makes a real difference. Low-E glass holds heat in during winter and reduces overheating in summer.

Practical for the whole family

A low threshold means no tripping, something families with small children and older people appreciate. And since the sash never swings into the room, furniture can sit right up against the glass.

Roller shutters, VK Product

Roller shutters

Roller shutters keep out the sun, prying eyes and unwanted visitors, and on the coast in summer they make a huge difference to room temperature.

Aluminium or PVC slats

Aluminium slats are filled with polyurethane foam, so they insulate well and are more robust. They come in many colours and wood effects; a single curtain can be roughly up to 160 cm wide and 260 cm high. PVC slats are more affordable and weather-resistant, usually in white, grey or beige, with curtains up to about 145 cm wide. Wider openings are simply split into several curtains.

Built-in or surface-mounted

Built-in shutters have a box above the window and are usually fitted together with new windows. The box must be insulated, otherwise it becomes the spot where cold gets into the room. Surface-mounted shutters go on the façade or into the opening itself and are ideal when the windows aren't being replaced, they're corrosion-resistant and easy to maintain.

Operation

By hand with a strap, or with an electric motor, on a switch, remote or timer. A motor is handy for large, heavy curtains, glass walls and holiday rentals, where guests shouldn't have to wrestle with a strap.

With new windows

If you're replacing windows, it's best to measure and fit the shutters at the same time, so sizes and colours match perfectly.

Louvred shutters, VK Product

Louvred shutters

Louvred shutters (grilje, or škure as many locals call them) are part of what the Bay of Kotor looks like. Aluminium shutters keep that look and spare you the repainting every spring.

Why aluminium rather than wood

Wooden shutters are beautiful, but salt, sun and damp wear them down quickly: paint peels, wood cracks, leaves warp. Aluminium shutters don't rot or change shape, and the powder-coated finish stays like new for years. In a wood-effect finish they're hard to tell from real timber.

Shade, while the breeze does its job

The louvres block the sun but let air through. In summer you can leave the window open and the shutters closed: the room stays shaded and ventilated without the air conditioning running all day.

Versions

Hinged shutters, the classic, single or double-leaf. Sliding, when there's no room in front of the window for leaves to open. Folding (bi-fold), for wider openings and balcony doors. Louvres can be fixed or adjustable, so you decide how much light comes in.

Colours

Green, brown, grey, anthracite or wood effect, we pick the colour to suit the façade, whether it's a new house or an old stone one in the Old Town.

Mosquito nets, VK Product

Mosquito nets

A mosquito-free summer on the coast starts with a good net. It lets air and light through, stops insects, and stays out of the way when you don't need it.

The types we make

  • Fixed: the simplest and most affordable. Stays on the window all season and comes off easily for winter.
  • Roller: the mesh winds up into a small cassette above the window. Pull it down when you need it, let it up when you don't.
  • Pleated: the mesh folds like an accordion to one side. Ideal for balcony and sliding doors and wider openings; single or double.
  • Hinged: opens like a real door; practical for terrace or garden exits.

How to choose

Think about how often you open that window or door and where insects bother you most. A roller net works well for kitchens and bedrooms, a pleated or hinged one for balcony doors, and a fixed net for a window you rarely open.

With new windows or for existing ones

Most customers order nets together with their windows: everything is measured at once and fits perfectly. We also make nets for the PVC or aluminium windows and doors you already have.
